Kembar Da Silva Debut

Brazilian twins Fábio and Rafael da Silva are set to make their first appearances for the Reds tonight as Sir Alex Ferguson takes a strong squad to London Road to face his son Darren’s Peterborough United side.

The 19-strong travelling party is an exciting mix of established senior pros and promising youngsters, with the young full-backs from Rio de Janeiro state being the most notable inclusions. Their first outing in United colours has been eagerly anticipated since they turned 18 at the start of July, but the club had to wait until the pair’s contracts with their former club Fluminense officially expired last week to acquire international clearance to play them, even though the twins have been training in Manchester since January.

With that clearance now obtained, left-back Fábio and right-back Rafael will presumably start on the bench at London Road tonight wearing numbers 18 and 19 respectively, and with United playing their second of three friendlies in the space of 5 days there’s every chance that we’ll get our first glimpse of the pair in the red shirt. There should also be more valuable experience for the likes of Rodrigo Possebon, Tom Cleverley, Craig Cathcart and David Gray, as well as further opportunity for Fraizer Campbell, Darron Gibson, Jonny Evans and Lee Martin to press their claims for first-team consideration.
